Australian Animal Welfare
Speaking for animals who cannot speak for themselves
Animal welfare is important for most people and yet here in Australia abuse of animals is an ongoing problem.
This is both at the individual level among callous members of the public, as well as at the government-level where departments entrusted to care for animals and their welfare continually betray the public trust.
At its best, abuses of public trust by government officials and their departments results in sick, injured or dying animals, defined here as those who shouldn't be so.
Worse case situation is native species being forced into extinction through government policy.
Most people are familiar with the callous extermination of the Tasmanian Tiger, or Thylacine, that was extermined through reckless government police roughly 100 years ago.
Unfortunately governments in Australia in the twenty first century are no better and still cause native animals to go extinct.
Most threatened are not the cuddly species, but rather, amphibians and fish, as well as a smattering of reptiles, birds, rat-like native mammals and countless insect species.
Animal Welfare Australia are a group of organisations and people collaborating as a team to help animals, both native and domestic in terms of welfare and conservation.
