Animal Welfare Through the Eyes of a Mannequin Horse

Date: 31st October

Work Group: AWRED

Activity Type: Conference

Updates from an International Large Animal Rescue Conference being held this weekend in South Australia are being tweeted from a mannequin rescue horse’s personal Twitter account @rescueRiley.

Riley is a full size horse with articulated joints used to train emergency responders, veterinarians, horse owners and livestock transport drivers about what to do to get a large animals such as horses, cattle and sheep out of difficult situations.

Riley often needs to be saved from being stuck in deep mud, falling down a hole or ending up inside an overturned trailer, creating ideal opportunities to train emergency responders, veterinarians and horse event volunteers.

Animals in disasters, general rescue, horse event incident management and road crashes are all being considered by world experts from the UK, USA, Asia & Australia this coming weekend.

Information about the conference, which runs from the 2nd to the 3rd of November at the University of Adelaide, Roseworthy Campus, South Australia can be found on www.horse.org.au.
