Communications about the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS) is an essential part of the program. The need for greater effort and investment was highlighted in the recommendations of the Gemmel Review of progress in the Foundation Phase from 2005-10.
The communication challenge was, and continues to be, multifaceted. The approach has been to ensure that some basic and common communication platforms and services existed for AAWS working groups while the capacity of each working group was built to deliver messages to targeted audiences in an effective way.
A scoping report was commissioned in 2013 to provide advice on how to enhance AAWS communications. Key recommendations included:
- Measures to improve AAWS working group communications
- Delivery of consolidated AAWS messages
Presentation of a strong business case for change.
